Blog Analysis

The blog Cars on Roll was created by Rituraj Vyas, a 23 year old software engineer who lives in Noida India and claims to be a beginner blogger. The writer wanted the primary focus of the blog to be just about cars and car accessories, primarily newly launched or yet to be launched cars and car accessories. I found the blog interesting because I myself happen to like cars, especially exotic ones like the one he talks about in his blog. I feel that the author was honest in his blog because of his background as an engineer and also because his blog was quite objective. The writer maintains the blog because of the people who read and respond to his blog with comments and also because he wants to share his love of cars with others.

In his blog, the author makes a special connection with his audience. Based on the topic of the blog, the intended audiences for the blog are people who love cars and understand how they work. Though not directly stated, the author assumes that his audience likes or at least have an interests in exotic cars because he took the time to talk about the Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss which according to Vyas begins production in June of 2009. The blog on the other hand might not be appealing to people who don’t know much about cars nor have an interest in them. The blog page has several appealing pictures of the Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss as well as a good amount of information on the car’s performance capabilities. On the other hand, the blog does not mention everything there is to know about the Mercedes SRL Stirling Moss, but the lack of information was not shocking considering that the car has yet to begin production.

The blog, Cars on Roll, appeals to a unique audience through its unique content. One of the most notable qualities of the blog page is its use of pictures. In using images rather than words, the author gave his readers a better idea of how the Mercedes SRL Stirling Moss looked and what it would be like. The message in the blog was easy to understand due to the author’s use of Standard English. Although there were a few technical car terminology used to describe certain parts of the car. For example the author says, “The Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss has a carbon fiber body and features closed underbody and a rear diffuser for maximum down force on the rear axle.” Terms such as carbon fiber body, rear diffuser, and rear axle may be foreign to someone not very knowledgeable about cars. The author used a lot of statistical data in describing the car’s performance and there was no subjectivity in how the information was presented. I found the blog quite interesting for I had never seen a car like that before nor had I ever heard of a car that can go, “from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.”

Overall the blog was well done. The author’s purpose was to inform about the Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss. The blog did not state any negative qualities of the Stirling Moss and therefore could be considered unbalanced. Another problem with the blog was that not all aspects of the car were mentioned. For example information on the car’s safety, fuel consumption, and maintenance cost were not provided. Even though the author does a good job of positively portraying the car, one can not help but wonder whether the car would be practical to drive or rather to be owned as a trophy to show off.

Please comment on the blog. Here are some questions to guide you.
1. Could the blog use more or less detail? If so where?
2. Where there any areas that seamed confusing or hard to follow?
3. What can I do to improve the blog?
